| Oct. 9th, 2009 06:26 pm Price changes - Adaptec 4 port SATAII x4 PCI-e card $114.05 (was $128) - Hotway ProBox 4 bay eSATA enclosure $185 (no change - Western Digital 1TB Green SATA $103 (was $95)
Overall price drop is only $5 with the hard drives going up nearly $10.
I have to send my Gigabyte board back again. They flatly refuse to send me a new board so I can do a straight swap at the same time. But Altech did say they will send the board to LiveFire and they will ship it the day they get the board from me. So it doesn't have to go to Altech and wait for their bullshit.
I'm getting a Foxconn A79A-S as a replacement, specs pretty much match the Gigabyte, same number of SATA ports available.

| Sep. 17th, 2009 01:36 pm In the news... http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/09/15/us-patriot-act015.html - Obama still continuing in Bush's tradition, carrying on with everything the world hated about George Bush without batting an eye and nobody seems to notice. The ultimate wolf in sheeps clothing. Expect the first female president next to further push crooked agendas beneath all the hype and hysteria.
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/09/15/swine-flu-vaccine-fda.html - FDA has approved a swine flu vaccine. And of course because we're in a "medical emergency" with this terrible flu that effects & kills far less people than the seasonal flu, the manufacturers will be exempt from any wrong doing should the vaccine have adverse and dangerous side effects. No suing them, nobody is accountable. Get yours now!
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/09/16/un-israel-us016.html - UN report says Israel & Hamas commited war crimes by firing rockets (Hamas) aimlessly into Israel and using white phosphorous bombs (Israel) indiscriminately throughout densely populated areas. In no surprise to anyone, Israel calls it a biased report because they aren't shown as holy angels, while they continue to defy UN orders to stop building in Palestinian territories. It's "natural expansion"... I'm sure Hitler said that to Poland when he invaded too. But the beat goes on, Israel is never at fault, the world never reacts. If any surrounding nation did 2% of what Israel does back at Israel, they would be crushed swiftly and thoroughly. It's time to end Israel once & for all.
http://www.cbc.ca/crossroads-afghanistan/story/2009/09/12/afghan-vote.html - I am absolutely in love with how the media portrays this election compared to Iran's earlier in the year. By portray I mean completely ignore, not a single major Australian network has showed anything about election fraud in Afghanistan during the evening news. Not a single damn one. Of course Karzai is leading... he's a former warlord put in power by the allied forces to control the nation. The allies are trying their damn best to make this election look legit so they can say they are winning when they are clearly losing here after 8 years. But in Iran we wanted to destabilize the government, try to overthrow them with people power (you remember all the European colour revolutions and Latin American protests in coup attempts to throw out Chavez?). Same shit, different country, luckily it failed.
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/09/16/un-food-aid016.html - Amazing how this works isn't it? The countries in Africa are some of the richest resource lands in the world where we get cocoa, gold, diamonds, oil among others, and yet they are still the poorest in the world and can't even eat a meal. Why? Because they get fucked over by the global companies and institutions that go in there and steal everything and throw millions & billions of dollars of debt on the nation that they can never repay because now they don't own anything, and nobody has jobs because they are all imported. No wonder they are fucking starving.
http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2009/09/15/pei-milling-wheat-fungus.html - I wonder if those in Africa would have the same standards or if they would have bought the wheat for the cost of shipping. Guess we'll never know, they were never given the option.
http://www.cbc.ca/money/story/2009/09/16/gm-cash-for-clunkers-canada.html - AHAHAHAHA so GM is extending their Cash for Clunkers in Canada now after success in the states. That's right people, they are using YOUR MONEY from the bailout to buy YOUR PIECE OF SHIT CAR so you can buy one of their newer PIECES OF SHIT. It doesn't get any better than this, over 700,000 cars were bought back (WITH YOUR MONEY & THE MONEY EX-EMPLOYEES WHO ARE GETTING SHAFTED) in the US alone. Even if every car got the absolute lowest value of $500 each (honestly though how many got that compared to thousands), that is still $350,000,000 (yes $350m) of your dollars spend buying PIECE OF SHIT cars. Feels good doesn't it, to get fucked up the ass like that and get absolutely nothing from it?
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/09/15/australia-government-splitting-telstra.html - It made news in Canada, it must be exciting. But wait, is it? Telstra retail must split from Telstra wholesale. So, who is going to own the 2 new companies that will be formed? Is there anything that sells Telstra has to SELL one of them, or just split them up into 2 distinct organizations and continue to own both? Stock prices fall blah blah blah... split the company into 2 and list BOTH companies, more chance of profit because retail won't drag down wholesale. And now they are being forcibly invited back into the fray of the NBN scheme? They missed the deadline, they didn't submit a proposal, they have no right to be given access to a national fibre network unless they build one themselves. The boat sailed. Am I the only one that sees this as a massive boost to Telstra, not a hit? And the government throws in some fluff about forcing them to sell Foxtel if they don't comply...wtf does Foxtel have to do with phone & internet services? (and additional lols, Telstra stocks RALLIED after a brief decline to reach 11-month HIGHS after the news... see even the stock holders know this is a massive win for them - http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/09/16/2688044.htm?section=australia)
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/09/11/mb-mts-wireless-rogers-manitoba.html - Rogers will expand its services into Manitoba with a new deal with Manitoba Telecom. No big deal by itself, but then you get this...
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/09/10/rogers-shaw-mountain-cablevision.html - Rogers SUES Shaw cable for trying to buy the cable division of Mountain Cable in Ontario because they are invading their turf of Ontario to the maritimes. WHAT? First, Rogers goes west and has no problem with this, but Shaw comes east and Rogers gets shitty... pot & kettle said something about this. But even more frustratingly obscene "Rogers sees that as an encroachment on its business, and is seeking to stop the sale." ... THAT'S CALLED BUSINESS YOU BAG OF DICKS. It's an open market, you should both go national and compete instead of being the monopoly controller of regional markets. Business is SUPPOSED to compete, that's the whole goddamn point. This just ... wow.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/09/13/2684397.htm - Approximately 350 people are effected yearly who are effected by spina bifida. That's right, some 21 million people, an overwhelming majority of them either men, seniors or children (not child-rearing mothers) are now forced to consume folate in their daily bread. Experts say pregnant women will still need to take folic acid supplements during pregnancy as well. So what's the point? As soon as they can find a way to stabilize & preserve vaccines I'm sure they'll want to put that in our food as well. Current Mood: bitter

| Sep. 10th, 2009 08:05 pm My List So here's a list of wants currently floating around. Let's start with the shows I want to go see:
Sept 10 - Raised Fist @ The Hi-Fi (yeah it's on right now, couldn't be bothered finding a last minute ticket & hauling ass into the city & back for it though) Sept 25 - Kreator @ The Hi-Fi Oct 2 - Bad Religion & NOFX @ Brisbane Riverstage in the Botanic Gardens Oct 7 - Slayer & Megadeth @ Brisbane Riverstage in the Botanic Gardens Nov 7 - Arch Enemy, Suffocation & Winds of Plague @ The Hi-Fi Nov 11 - 50 Lions & Trapped Under Ice @ Princess Theatre Nov 26 - Amon Amarth @ The Hi-Fi
Surely there are more but I only check on LiveGuide.com.au these days so there's a bunch I'm missing.
Now onto the shopping list. We've already crossed off a few things since we moved to Brisbane (yes we've been here since mid-July, farewell Adelaide). I got a new office chair for the computer (so very comfy), a new mouse & keyboard (swapped the new keyboard today for a replacement after 2 weeks because the Shift key kept sticking), a new TV (42" Panasonic Viera plasma), full bedroom suite for Storme, some bed sheets, clothes, shoes, electric fry pan, a new extendable dining table with 4 chairs etc.
Still have on the list:
- Entertainment unit for the TV with room for Xbox 360, PC, Stereo and other devices - New desk for the PC - More chairs for the dining table - New couch or full lounge room suite with recliners - Tallboy dresser for our bedroom or full king size bedroom suite - More 1TB Western Digital HDD's ($109 now) - Single SATA port multiplier or PCIe SATA expansion card to support 2-4 drives internally - External 4 bay eSata enclosure (Hotway ProBox supports 8TB eSata for only $185) - Graduate Certificate in Information Technology from QUT with major in Enterprise Systems - Toaster oven - Outdoor patio set & BBQ - Drum Kit (still on the list) - Webcam
Apparently we need a car too, not at all interested in that one so it's not on my list. If I would have known it would be like this I wouldn't have gone looking for a house so far outside the comfortable walking distance to shops & transportation centers.
Now off to watch a movie. 2 Voices ± Be Heard

| May. 11th, 2009 07:46 pm Idle Musings I've been busy lately, no time to update this really, but rest assured the bitter contempt for humanity is still there. But first, why I've been busy:
- I manage over 40 servers and more than 230 users in my free time, trying to make some money and learn some crazy linux skills like Xen virtualization among other things.
- I have a contract with the government which takes me into July just a couple weeks before we move up to Brisbane.
- I have a full to do list of things I haven't done, even when unemployed bludging the system, because frankly being on welfare, dealing with Cuntrelink and the shortfalls of not having spare money, it was worth it not working in that fucking place any more.
I've also been listening to a lot of movie meant to motivate change. Propagandhi, Snapcase, Ramallah etc. Music used to have meaning, have a message, and I'm trying my best to find current bands that have the slightest hint of disgust and idealogy of these bands. I'm sick of lazy apathetic fucking drones who can't be bothered standing up for what's right and making a fucking difference. My facebook status has been flooded with lyrical quotes from bands who ahd a message, and my most recent is my own. I want to motivate people to do something, anything, to strike back at the worthless fucking employers who pay a pittance for a hard days work, provide not even the most basic of medical benefits, and of course the salary doesn't even allow people to afford basic private health insurance. And when approached to make a difference, who stands up and says "sure, I'll fight them for better, I want my slice too"? 1, maybe 2 people? Am I the only one who had enough of this shit long before the world economy went into shit from fuck-poor business decisions and employees got fucked over? Now is the absolute perfect time to claim your stake and guarantee your future is properous and healthy. Stand up for something.
1) MATERNITY LEAVE - The Rudd Government announced this weekend, May 10 2009, that come 2011 the women of Australia will have 18 weeks paid maternity leave. Yes, this modern first world nation, strong ally of the other Western nations, is one of the last to have any basic sense to give women paid leave for having a child. Mind you, they still couldn't give a flying fuck about the father who still gets 0 paid paternity days. But for fuck sake just look at this article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parental_leave and you can see that those countries we despise for their attrocious human rights and abuses (Democratic Replic of Congo, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, China, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia...) ALL have paid maternity leave of some sort and have had it for many many years. Countries where women are stoned to death and not allowed to show skin grant paid maternity leave, yet here we are a good 2 years away from any sort of paid scheme. Way to be fucking modern, a woman can be acting prime minister when Rudd is overseas, but if she had a kid good luck getting any fucking money while you're off work.
2) PARROTS vs LOGGING - Yes, Peter Garrett has actually done something for a change since he became environment minister. He forced logging companies in NSW to shut down, despite NSW government protest, because an endangered parrot species calls the area their home. Locals and government officials both municipal and statewide are furious that jobs are going to be lost to save a native species. Sorry cunts, but nature over your logging any day of the week. Learn to be sustainable and work in the environment, have you not learned anything yet? Did you not see the Amazon's record low water levels in recent years largely due to clear cutting the rainforest? Anyone crying over jobs lose to try & save a native & endangered species of bird can line up at my front door now and proceed to lick my asshole clean.
3) UN CONDEMNS ISRAEL - White phosphorous bombs, negligence, crimes against humanity, aimless attacks on civilians, UN buildings... you name and Israel did it on their previous invasion if Gaza, and the UN has heavily condemned this, yet we still have to tread lightly or we're all racist anti-Semites. Beware Israel, they can do no harm. Fuck that, racist or not, anti-semetic or not, I am yet again calling for obliteration of this place and starting fresh. When will it ever be resolved in any other way?
I could go on but I'm hungry, time to go watch Flashpoint. Current Mood: pissed off

| Feb. 23rd, 2009 12:31 pm The hits keep coming Regarding my motherboard fun:
They will replace the board with a different model to see if that will work. As for what model they cannot say until they have the board in their hands as the Gigabyte stock fluctuates so rapidly its hard to tell what they will have in at the time.
What I recommend you do though is before removing the board to send to Altech, change the IDE controller to default/generic. This way you may be able to just plug all your gear into the new motherboard and not have it blue screen in Windows.
So I'll be without a PC again apparently, I'm going to ask them to send me the new board before I send the fucked one back. I'm trying to find a job, I need this computer. I'm also trying to get a new website off the ground, kinda hard to do on a slow laptop that isn't mine. Not to mention that my chance of fucking up the whole driver this is better than my chance of getting it right. So I'll likely end up with a clean OS install instead of saving this and losing more shit in the meantime.
Speaking of new website, the server I ordered doesn't power on. So I've been offered a Duo2Core Intel one instead, waiting to find out what the price difference is on that box and of course what discount I get on money & time already spent.

| Feb. 23rd, 2009 09:10 am Le sigh So about 2 days ago I wake up to another Write Delayed Fail error on my computer... AVG took 6 hours to complete a scan and every file on the G: it found produced an error in the event log. There was thousands of them. So I start testing with another cable, swap drives etc, and the problem yet again stayed with the port on the board... G_SATAII_1. So I email LiveFire where I got the board, told them it's happening again (this is after all my replacement board, the original one was replaced when they confirmed this problem months ago). This morning I get a reply, they have to check with Altech the wholesaler they get stock from who do the RA's and nobody to speak to there until Wednesday, so I get to wait.
The G: has been disconnected since then to avoid more error. But, this morning I wake up to see AVG still going and spitting out delayed write errors to the D: which is on G_SATAII_2... Well, I reboot the computer forcibly because nothing is responding. And surprise, it's super fucked AGAIN.
All 1300+ torrents in uTorrent - Gone All servers in mIRC - Gone All mIRC log files from overnight - Empty
Whatever I had open overnight is completely fucked, it's all gone. And of course with this write delay errors and fucked up hard drives, there's no recent backups, and the one drive with some form of backup is unplugged because it's fucked.
The GA-MA790FX-DS5 by Gigabyte is a fucking horrible product and I should have stayed with MSI boards.
Today is off to a wicked start.

| Jan. 21st, 2009 09:06 pm UPDATE So there's plenty of stuff happening, I'll try to do what I can :)
- Have a 4 day temp job doing inventory for the massive EDS call center out at Lockleys. Tomorrow will be last day, we ripped through it big time on Monday and got 95% fo the production floor done. Yesterday & today were server & communication rooms as well as other office spaces.
- Israel is still so far beyond horrible but I've said it all before, though they have a new tactic. Now they attack the United Nations. Aid driver shot dead, UN schools & headquarters bombed. Gaza enclosed by a massive wall so refugees can't escape, missiles falling randomly across the place. Workers loading oxygen tanks onto a truck blown up, mistaken for terrorists loading rockets. UN demands a ceasefire etc yet the world continues to sit back & watch. Didn't we invade Iraq on less? Kosovo? When will the UN/NATO act responsibly and hold Israel accountable for their war crimes?
- Still trying to order a 6TB OVH server so I can host shit on it, have 5-6 users already signed up waiting to get a box but none of my friends in Quebec seem at all interested in being the middle man I funnel money through. See OVH don't sell to the rest of Canada or Australia, just France, Quebec, and a bunch of other Euro countries. So here I am, people with money in hand, waiting & begging for a server, and nobody to order it. :(
- Still looking for work, applied for one last week through an agency which was for Built Environs, they filled the spot on their own. Was looking for helpdesk officer with ADSL & Printer experience... duuur why didn't you let the agency pass on my resume to you! I am perfect for that job! Ahh well, still searching.
I actually found a TL position I am about to apply for. While I don't have or know wtf ITIL is, reading what they want I am easily qualified and capable, and have done large portions of what they want over the past 2.5 years. So I'll give that a shot and see what happens.
Anyways, gotta go sort out some more shit, my body aches from doing this inventory. Over 2,200 assets to be scanned & verified. All the racks are done, there's 1 more storage room tomorrow I think then any that have been missed. Current Mood: determined Current Music: Prayer For Cleansing - Sonnet

Christmas & other pics - http://ubermike.com/photos/v/2008-12-31/
I made a booboo and resized/renamed the originals rather than moving them to my working folder location so now I gotta go find the originals and sort through them.
Also the new Fuji camera, a few complaints:
- Orange colour of the first lot of pics it took. It seems to get better over time.
- The backgrounds on a lot of pictures seem very grainy, not clear and crisp like the Kodak camera.
- It's so not intuitive. When you turn it sideways to take a portrait photo, it doesn't adjust it so I had to rotate dozens of images 90 degrees before saving them, what a fucking pain in the ass. Be Heard

| Dec. 15th, 2008 09:46 pm FUCK IT I QUIT So Friday was my last day at work, 3 weeks of vacation now then unemployed unless I find something before then. With the current market & proximity to the holidays, there really isn't much out there. I couldn't stay any more, I did as much as possible to make things work there and put up a fight but some people can't be shown the light. There's a reason complaints are up and people are whining on WP again and it's so blatantly obvious on the frontlines but nobody above that seems to get the picture.
When someone quits or moves to another position and you have 3-4 weeks before they go, it's really really really simple to replace them in a timely manner. Not 1 month AFTER they have left. That means you're -1 for a whole month BEFORE YOU EVEN LOOK FOR A REPLACEMENT then 2 weeks to take applications, interviews & decide, and minimum 2 more weeks to do basic training. So really we're looking at 2 month turnaround time to have someone with enough basic skills to do the job.
I couldn't deal with it any more. The system is flawed. Nobody has a clue. The people who seem to have a clue get ignored. Nobody wants to hear how fucking bad they are at their job. They just bury their head in the fucking sand.
And when you do make suggestions for improvements, you don't get any feedback. I made a MAJOR proposal for change months ago and just last week heard it was coming out in January. Oh and no mention of the effort or work I put out there to make the change kick in. And by the sounds of it, they won't be asking staff for their preferences etc, it'll be assigned which is the only thing I'm against. The rest was lifted word for word by the look of it out of my plan. No love.
Christmas Party is the only good thing I have to say about the whole year really, and even then I had to buy my own drinks. The only credit I'll give the company for is arranging to have all my friends in the same place at the same time so I could hang out with them before I left.
Pictures will be coming soon. I'm glad those 2.5 years are over, I'm amazed I lasted that long. I'm not alone, I guarantee 5+ more seniors will be gone in the next 2 months as well and although people will read this, NOTHING will be done to ensure these quality staff are kept. Nobody will investigate, nobody will ask, nobody will care. It's just less senior staff with a grudge to worry about when WorkChoices are ditched and the Fair Work policy becomes law, making the company powerless to ignore union discussion any more. And I guarantee I will continue working with the union and staff until such a time that they get drastic improvements.
You have not seen the last of me. Be Heard
